Beforehand is a private, New Zealand tool for getting your end-of-life affairs organised: your wishes, your accounts, your documents, and a clear handoff to the person who will one day need them.

When someone dies, the people left behind inherit a maze.

Accounts nobody can find. Passwords nobody knows. Agencies to notify, in an order nobody explains. Funeral decisions made by people who are grieving and guessing. It usually lands on one person, at the worst possible time.

Beforehand is where you sort it out in advance, calmly, while you can. It was built after David's own father died in 2024, when the family learned first-hand just how much there is to carry.

How it works

Capture

Work through what matters in plain steps: your wishes, key contacts, accounts and where to find them, important documents, and an advance directive for your healthcare choices. Save as you go.

Nominate

Choose who can access it, and exactly what they see. Your nominee, a partner, sibling, or executor, gets nothing until you decide they should.

Hand off

When it is needed, your nominee receives a clear, ready-to-act pack: what to do, in what order, NZ-specific. Probate, intestacy, KiwiSaver, ACC, and the agencies you actually have to deal with.

What's included

Today, Beforehand produces your advance directive plus the full practical-prep package. Will and EPA generation are planned for the next version, and everyone who buys now gets that added at no extra cost. For a will or EPA right now, Public Trust online or a solicitor is the way to go.

Simple, honest pricing

The same price as Public Trust's basic will, with a great deal more included. The one-off sets you up. The small annual fee keeps your NZ legal content current and your information stored safely.

Is this a will?
No. Beforehand organises everything around your will and makes your wishes and information findable. It works alongside your will and EPA. Will and EPA generation are coming in the next version.
When does my nominee get access?
Only when you choose. Nothing is shared until you set it up, and you control exactly what each person can see.
Is my information private?
Yes. No ads, no selling data. Your information is yours, and you decide who ever sees it.
Is it only for older people?
No. The common thread is people who have seen what an unprepared death does to a family: after losing a parent, a health scare, or becoming someone's executor.
